About Us

Kip McGrath Cleveland

Kip McGrath Cleveland provides professional tutoring to primary and secondary school aged students in Maths and English.

Welcome, my name is Carole Bingham and my husband Robert and I have recently taken over the Kip McGrath Cleveland Centre.  Robert has previously taught Senior Maths at the centre and I started tutoring when we were first considering buying our own Centre to make sure it was something I would enjoy doing.

To our surprise Lisa and Ian (previous owners) offered the Cleveland Centre to us. We were quite overwhelmed by the incredible honour and faith Ian and Lisa had expressed in us by proposing our takeover of the Cleveland centre.

Having spent some time teaching adult literacy and numeracy since leaving my position of Director of Studies in a high school, I became increasingly aware that if children begin to fall behind or struggle in their studies their chances of achieving their potential in education and life decreases.  I am so happy to now be in a position where I can do something to help these children.

I love the time I spend with the children and really enjoy getting to know them.  Although most of my teaching experience has been with high school students I now know why so many teachers go into primary education.  There is a special buzz that comes from working with the little ones and to see their faces light up when they learn something new.

Robert is again teaching senior maths at the centre, but at this stage he can only be with me part time as his position with the Queensland Studies Authority still takes up most of his working hours.

We are very excited to be part of the Kip McGrath Cleveland family and are looking forward to our future here as we try to fill the very big shoes of Ian and Lisa.

If you have and questions or would like to book a free assessment for you child, please call us on 3821 6615 or fill out the online form and we will be sure to get back to you to organise a time that suits.

Just a reminder to all parents and guardians that if a child is away from a lesson, a catch up lesson is to be made and taken within 10 teaching weeks. All missed lessons are to be paid for at the very next lesson (please see the fee policy for further information).

Also, if a child is to be away from a lesson, 24 hours notice is to be given except in cases of genuine illness or emergency.

We ask that parents keep track of their children's missed lessons and action the catch ups regularly to ensure smooth tuition of lessons for their children.

Outstanding Effort

Courtney Allen cropped - Cleveland

"I have been amazed at Courtney's improvement in her maths at school. In "Mental Maths", a textbook they use at school, Courtney has improved over 100% - a constant improvement since she started being tutored. The best result so far is her confidence to tackle maths problems, instead of thinking it's too hard for her. She loves her teacher and enjoys coming here every week, so it doesn't get better than that! Thank you for all you have managed to do for my daughter"

Tracy, mother of Courtney

Tara Bartlett Cleveland

"Over the past six months Tara's reading has improved dramatically. I am totally thrilled with her improvement. Tara's confidence has also improved in the school class room"

Jenny, mother of Tara

Cleveland - Jackson Denham "I would like to say thanks to Jackson's tutor for all the help she has given Jackson over the past 12 months with maths. Jackson never really struggled with maths however we felt the tutoring would give him more confidence and improve on his average marks. Last year he was placed in the average maths class in year 6 and we are pleased to say this year he has been moved up into the top level maths class for year 7. He was so excited about being in the top class, it has given him a huge boost of confidence and he is now eager to do even better. Thanks to everybody at Kip McGrath!"

Mara, mother of Jackson

Cleveland - Ashley Denham

"Brad and I have been really happy with Ashley's improvement over the past few months and we could see this in his recent Naplan test results. He scored well above average for his level in most areas. It's great to see he is enjoying maths and is eager to learn. I feel this will help him, in future, when he does start to take on more challenging maths in class"

Mara, mother of Ashley

"I am very happy with Mark's progress. He got a B+ for the first time in maths, and his confidence is spreading through to other areas as well"

Yvette, mother of Mark

"Zoe is now far more confident, she will attempt more complex mathematical problems. Her maths at school is much improved. Zoe looks forward to her lessons. Lessons are fun for her and the reward/comments are always encouraging. Zoe enjoys use of the computer system"

Leanne, mother of Zoe

“Kip has helped Olivia so much. She now has more confidence in her ability and isn’t scared of comprehension and writing tasks. We have been amazed at the way her creative writing has improved. Her vocab has been strengthened so much. It has been a thrill to see her enthusiasm for English improve. It has been such a positive experience for us all.”

Narelle, mother of Olivia

"Our son Tom in Year 8 was getting appalling results. Although he appeared to be doing the allocated homework, the last straw was a "D" for Maths. We tried threats, bribes and home tutoring - to no avail. This year, we enrolled him at Kip McGrath one night a week. His marks this semester range between A and B's. What better testimonial than success, and the confidence this brings in a teenager?"

Jennifer, mother of Tom

"This year at school Sabrena has been very unhappy. She had slowly been falling behind in her reading and spelling. After one month at Kip McGrath she is a different child. She can't wait to get home and start her homework. The work is explained to her in a way she can understand. We all want our children to do their best, but enjoying it and feeling they are achieving something as they go along makes Kip McGrath # 1 in my book.”

Mandi, mother of Sabrena
